Hassle-free file explorer for Mac
The file explorer your Mac has been missing.
Cut and paste files. Browse a real folder tree. Work in tabs or two panes, and undo any move. Everything you liked about the file explorer on a PC, built natively for macOS.
⌘X, go somewhere else, ⌘V. It moves.
Never lose a file
Folders merge instead of being wiped. Replace sends the old file to the Trash. A move to another disk is checked before the original goes. Many clashes, one question. And ⌘Z undoes copies, moves, renames and trashing.
A real folder tree
Every disk and folder in a tree that follows where you are, with favorites, recent folders, tags and your cloud drives.
Type a path. Go there.
An address bar that is always there. Click any part of the path to jump, type one, or copy it.
Search that finds it
Searches the folder you’re in and everything below it. Keep any search as a smart folder that stays up to date.
Folder sizes in the list
See how big every folder is and sort by it. Sizes are remembered, so big folders are not measured again.
Tabs and dual pane
Folders in tabs, pinned tabs for every day, and two panes side by side to copy or move with one click.
It remembers
Each folder keeps its own view, sort and column widths. Your tabs and windows come back where you left them.
Copies you can watch
Speed and time left, pause and resume. One bad file never stops the rest: retry it or skip it.
Cut and paste files safely
Press ⌘X, go somewhere else, press ⌘V. A move to another disk is checked before the original goes, and ⌘Z puts it back.
Works like you expect
New text, Word and Excel files from the right-click menu. Delete trashes, hidden files one key away.
Press Return or Enter to open files
Move with the arrow keys and press Return to open a file or folder. F2 renames, ⌘↑ goes up a folder, Tab moves between the tree and the panes, and typing a name jumps to it.
Know your files
Pages and words, camera and lens, codecs and bit rate, who signed an app. The details that matter for each file, under the preview.
Preview pane
Images, PDFs, video, audio and text, with colors for code and zoom for everything.
Photo gallery
Open a photo and go through the whole folder: arrows, swipe, pinch to zoom, slideshow.
Command palette
⇧⌘P and type the name of any command. Change any shortcut you like.

FAQ
Where is the file explorer on a Mac?
The Mac’s own file explorer is the smiling face at the left end of the Dock. FolderZoom is a file explorer for Mac that looks and works like the one on a PC.
How do I open the file explorer on a Mac?
Click the smiling face at the left end of the Dock, or press ⌥⌘Space. To get the layout you know from a PC, with a folder tree and an address bar, open FolderZoom instead.
How do I cut and paste files on a Mac?
With the built-in file viewer you copy with ⌘C and then move with ⌥⌘V; there is no Cut. In FolderZoom, ⌘X and ⌘V work the way they do on a PC.
Is there a PC-style file explorer for Mac?
Not built in. FolderZoom brings the same layout to the Mac: folder tree, address bar, details view, cut and paste.
How do I see a folder tree on a Mac?
The built-in file viewer has no tree; the closest is list view with disclosure triangles. FolderZoom shows a full tree beside your files.
How do I type a path on a Mac?
In the built-in file viewer, press ⇧⌘G. In FolderZoom the address bar is always there: click it and type.
How do I show hidden files on a Mac?
Press ⇧⌘. (Shift, Command, period) in the built-in file viewer, and the same in FolderZoom.
How do I merge two folders on a Mac without losing files?
With the built-in file viewer, dropping a folder on one with the same name offers Replace, which deletes what was there; hold Option while dragging to be offered Merge. In FolderZoom folders always merge, and only files that clash ask.
How do I see folder sizes on a Mac?
In the built-in file viewer, turn on “Calculate all sizes” in View Options, folder by folder. FolderZoom shows them in every list and lets you sort by them.
What is taking up space on my Mac?
FolderZoom’s Disk Usage draws any folder as a picture where area is size, so the big things are the big blocks.
Is FolderZoom free?
Yes. Pro is a yearly subscription, priced in the App Store, and adds multi-window support, two-column sorting, column filters, advanced search, batch rename and a disk space visualizer.
Does it replace the Mac’s own file viewer?
No, and it does not change how your Mac works. FolderZoom runs next to it: choose FolderZoom with “Open With” on any folder, drag a folder onto its Dock icon, or use “Reveal in FolderZoom” from the Services menu. Nothing is taken over.
