FolderZoom Support

Contact

Use the contact form (files up to 5 MB can be attached), or write to support@folderzoom.com. The quickest way is Help › Contact Support… in FolderZoom: it opens a message in your mail application with a short report attached (versions, the kind of Mac, FolderZoom's own log). You see everything before you send it and can remove the attachment. We answer in English, usually within two working days.

If FolderZoom quit unexpectedly, it offers "Send Report…" the next time you open it. Please use it, and add a line about what you were doing: that is what lets us fix it.

Access to your files

FolderZoom comes from the Mac App Store, so macOS lets it see only what you allowed.

  • First launch. FolderZoom asks once. Press Grant Access to Macintosh HD…, and in the window of macOS that follows leave the disk selected and press Grant Access. This covers your folders, including Desktop, Documents and Downloads, and other disks.
  • macOS asks a few more times, once each, the first time you open a place it guards separately: your Desktop, Documents and Downloads, the Music and Photos libraries, the Trash, and the Library folder with the data of other apps. Answering as you go is all it takes: FolderZoom never asks for any of them in the background, and never for one you have not opened.
  • If you said no once, macOS will not ask again: it remembers the answer and simply refuses from then on. Turn FolderZoom on under System Settings › Privacy & Security › Files & Folders and it works again. (Full Disk Access is a different setting and does nothing for FolderZoom, which is sandboxed as the App Store requires.)
  • Change it later in Settings › Locations (disks) and in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Files & Folders (the rest).
  • Folder sizes. A place macOS guards shows no size until you open it, and a size that could not count everything is shown as a floor (41 GB+) rather than as a number that looks whole.

Removing FolderZoom

Deleting an app does not empty the folder it kept its own settings in: macOS leaves that behind and runs nothing of the app on the way out. FolderZoom writes to one folder only, and nowhere else, so there is one thing to remove.

  1. Before you delete it, open Settings › Locations › Leaving FolderZoom › Forget Everything…. That hands back the disks you granted and removes the settings, the tabs from last time and the folder sizes FolderZoom measured. Your own files are never touched.

  2. Delete FolderZoom from Applications as usual.

  3. If you had already deleted it, remove this folder by hand. In Finder, choose Go › Go to Folder… and paste:

    ~/Library/Containers/com.folderzoom.app

  4. The privacy answers are separate. macOS keeps them, not FolderZoom, and no amount of deleting reaches them. To clear them, in Terminal (no administrator rights needed):

    tccutil reset All com.folderzoom.app

FolderZoom installs no helper, no background item and no login item, so there is nothing else to find.

FolderZoom Pro

  • Buy with Get Pro under the folder tree, or in Settings › FolderZoom Pro.
  • Already bought, but not active (a new Mac, a reinstall): Settings › FolderZoom Pro › Restore Purchases. Use the Apple Account you bought it with.
  • Cancel in the App Store: your name at the bottom left › Account Settings › Subscriptions › FolderZoom. Pro stays active until the period ends.
  • Refunds and billing are handled by Apple alone: https://reportaproblem.apple.com

Good to know

  • Commands in the address bar (> followed by a command) are not part of the App Store edition. Use Open Terminal Here; the terminal application is chosen in Settings › Terminal.
  • Folder sizes of the places macOS guards separately are shown once you open the folder they are in, and macOS may ask at that moment.
  • Nothing is collected. See the Privacy Policy.
